Sulu vice gov quits role in hostage crisis

MANILA, Philippines - Sulu vice-governor Lady Ann Sahidulla has officially resigned as member of the team negotiating for the release of the European Red Cross volunteers held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf. In a text message sent to GMA News, Sahidullah without elaborating said that she wanted to quit out of fear for her life. "I just want to quit. I don't want to risk my life," she said. Sahidulla is one of the frequently contacted personalities of the Abu Sayyaf regarding the conditions of the hostages as well as their demands. She was also the one called by the bandits to pick up Filipina hostage Mary Jean Lacaba when she was released last April 2. The two remaining hostages, Eugenio Vagni and Andreas Notter, have been in captivity for almost three months. They were abducted last January 15 after inspecting a water sanitation project in Sulu. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
