Viloria: Solis will be ‘Filipino killer’ no more

MANILA, Philippines – Brian Viloria has had enough of Ulises Solis’ nagging habit of beating Filipinos. Viloria vowed to put an end to the Mexican’s killing ways against Pinoy foes and at the same time get a crown for himself when they mix it up on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. “I’m looking forward to a great fight, to another title being made again," the Hawaii-based Filipino fighter, who is seeking Solis’ International Boxing Federation lightflyweight belt, told 24 Oras. “Ulises Solis is known as a Filipino killer but I’m gonna stop his streak and take his title away from him," he added. Solis had made his reputation as a “Filipino executioner" after dismantling three previous Pinoy rivals, Bert Batawang, Rodel Mayol and Glenn Donaire, brother of world champ Nonito Jr. In avenging the defeats of his countrymen at the hands of Solis, the “Hawaiian Punch" will also be proving that he still has a place among the world's elite fighters. This will be a fight for vindication for Viloria, who held the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightfly diadem in 2005, defended it once then lost it to Omar Niño the following year. Viloria unsuccessfully vied for the same title against Edgar Sosa in 2007 when the WBC stripped Niño of the crown due to drug use. Viloria’s showdown with Martinez will co-headline “The Flash and the Furious" double-championship card at the historic Big Dome. Also featured will be Nonito Donaire, Jr., who’s set to defend his IBF-International Boxing Organization flyweight belts against dangerous Raul “The Cobra" Martinez. –GMANews.TV
