Oscar retirement a right decision, says Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) expressed support for Oscar De La Hoya’s decision to hang up his gloves and paid tribute to the "Golden Boy" who’s made boxing as big as it now. “I am very happy for Oscar and his family," Pacquiao said in a statement. “I think he made the correct decision. Fighters of my generation owe him a great debt. I wish him nothing but the best," added Pacquiao, who himself is looking at retirement in two years’ time. Pacquiao was the last fighter to step in the ring against De La Hoya in a mega-fight aptly dubbed “The Dream Match" last December. Although some analysts hardly gave him a chance against the taller De La Hoya, the Pacman went on to totally dominate the Golden Boy, who eventually called it quits before the ninth. Pacquiao and De La Hoya would continue to deal outside the ring, though, as the latter’s Golden Boy Promotions shares promoting rights with Top Rank for Pacquiao's upcoming fight with Ricky Hatton. –GMANews.TV
