DOJ chief sad over ‘mind conditioning’ on Failon case

MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez is “not impressed" with what he called efforts to condition the public into accepting the death of broadcaster Ted Failon (Mario Teodoro Etong)’s wife Trinidad as a suicide. Gonzalez, in a radio interview, said Friday it was unfair to throw the burden at Mrs. Etong, who died Thursday night after being shot inside their Quezon City house Wednesday. “I’m not very impressed, although this is just my own conclusion, the way some people who are trying to help Ted Failon now in the past several days in their attempt to enhance Ted Failon’s position seem to have thrown the burden against the wife who was then dying already," he said in an interview on dwIZ radio. But he did not elaborate on who he was referring to. Gonzalez said an investigation is already ongoing, and that he already ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to assist the police in getting to the bottom of the case. He also found a supposed suicide note by Mrs. Etong “queer." “You want to take your life, you love your family, you are saying sorry, sorry for what?" he said. Meanwhile, Gonzalez denied reports that he called Public Attorney’s Office head Persida Acosta “crazy," after he gave her a tongue-lashing for “assisting" Failon Thursday. Acosta helped “notarize" Failon’s statement at the police and also helped bring him to the hospital to see his wife. “I never said that. In fairness to Acosta, I never said she’s crazy. She’s a very competent person ... I was peeved kahapon (yesterday) about the participation of Acosta but I never said she’s crazy," Gonzalez said. “This is creating a wedge between me and my subordinate who is a very responsible person," he added. - GMANews.TV
