Palace not behind Failon 'harassment' – official

MANILA, Philippines - A Malacañang official on Sunday branded as “unfair" the accusation that they are behind the supposed harassment being made against hard-hitting broadcaster Ted Failon by the police. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said they are even commiserating with Failon whose wife, Trinidad, died Thursday night in New Era Hospital in Quezon City from a fatal gunshot wound in the head. “It is very unfair to ascribe to Malacañang any action committed by the Quezon City Police Department. Malacañang’s statement was clear, that we are commiserating with the Failon family," he said in an interview on Radio ng Bayan. Failon (Mario Teodoro Failon Etong in real life) has been accused of obstructing justice when he allegedly ordered his driver and househelps to clean the scene of the shooting, which was the bathroom of their home in Tierra Pura Homes subdivision. Trinidad reportedly committed suicide Wednesday, but police probers said they are not ruling out foul play. Remonde said he had enjoined the QCPD to "conduct themselves in the most professional manner" after some of Failon’s relatives and friends complain of harassment. - GMANews.TV
