PEP: GMA hits a double KO with airing of Donaire, Viloria bouts


MANILA, Philippines – The slightly delayed telecast of the back-to-back fights of Filipino boxers Brian Villoria and Nonito Donaire against Mexican-Americans Ulises Solis and Raul Martinez, respectively, was the runaway winner in the daytime race last Sunday, April 19. Dubbed as "The Flash and the Furious," this boxing event held at the Araneta Coliseum saw the two Filipino boxers win their respective matches. The TV coverage shown in GMA generated a 32.3 percent rating to lead all daytime and prime-time programs in Mega Manila, according to AGB Nielsen Philippines. The taped episode of "SOP "(15.5 percent) and entertainment talk show "Showbiz Central" (14.8 percent) came in second and third, respectively; both shows are from GMA. Completing the Top 5 are ABS-CBN's "Matanglawin" (14 percent) and "ASAP '09" (13.9 percent). "Mel & Joey" topped the prime-time race with 25 percent; followed by "Kap's Amazing Stories" (24.7 percent), "Rated K" (23.3 percent), "All Star K" (21.7 percent), and "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" (21.6 percent). On Monday night, April 20, GMA's newest game show "Hole In The Wall" (hosted by Ogie Alcasid and Michael V. as Angelina and Yaya) made an impressive debut. Posting a rating of 27.7 percent, it shared the fifth spot with ABS-CBN's "TV Patrol World" and "May Bukas Pa." Topping the prime-time race was "Zorro" (34.4 percent); followed by "Totoy Bato" (33.5 percent), "24 Oras" (32.3 percent), and "All About Eve" (28.6 percent). Two new afternoon soaps premiered last Monday – the 22nd season of "Daisy Siete" titled "Kambalilong" and the TV remake of "Kambal Sa Uma," starring Shaina Magdayao and Melissa Ricks. "Kambalilong" was slightly ahead with 21.4 percent while "Kambal Sa Uma" got 19.8 percent to grab the fourth and fifth slots, respectively. "Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?" was the daytime leader with 24.3 percent, followed by "Paano Ba ang Mangarap?" (22.2 percent) and "Eat Bulaga!" (21.7 percent). "Eat Bulaga!" and "XXX" were the leaders last Saturday, April 18. while "Paano Ba ang Mangarap?" and "Totoy Bato" ruled last Friday, April 17.
