Pacquiao honorary guest in Giants-Padres game

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao took a break from throwing punches at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles to be the special guest at the San Francisco Giants-San Diego Padres Major League Baseball game Tuesday at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Pacquiao, according to the Giants’ homepage at MLB.com, threw the opening pitch in the game, which San Francisco won, 8-3. Pacquiao's visit was part of "Filipino Heritage Night" hosted by the Giants. The presence of the four-time world champion and reigning pound-for-pound king alone helped the Giants sell 11,000 extra tickets, which is better compared to last year’s Filipino night that drew a group of 5,000. The "Filipino Heritage Night" is an annual event hosted by the Giants to honor the Bay Area’s large Filipino-American population. Lucky fans also received a limited edition Pacquiao bobblehead dolls. The event raised $50,000 that will be used by the Giants’ for their charity works. Pacquiao received a standing ovation as the sell-out crowd, many of whom were not Filipino, cheered him on as he made his way at the pitcher’s mound. Giants Cy Young winner and Filipino-American pitcher Tim Lincecum was behind the plate to catch Pacquiao's pitch. Pacquiao is in the homestretch of his three-month training for his scheduled fight against Englishman Ricky Hatton on May 2 (May 3 in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. At stake in their 12-round bout are Hatton’s International Boxing Organization and Ring Magazine world light welterweight titles. – GMANews.TV
