CSB Lady Blazers make V-League debut

MANILA, Philippines – College of Saint Benilde would be the last team to debut in the first conference of the Shakey’s V-League’s sixth season when it battles University of the Philippines at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan City. In other matches, former champion Adamson and three-time titlist University of Santo Tomas clash for the early lead at 6:00 p.m. Far Eastern University goes for a piece of the lead as it battles Lyceum at 4:00 p.m. The Lady Falcons and the Tigresses pulled off contrasting wins to open their respective bids. Adamson swept the Ateneo-OraCare Lady Eagles, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, while UST survived a thrilling five-set decision against last conference champion San Sebastian, 25-17, 25-19, 15-25, 13-25, 15-11. Focus will be on Adamson’s guest players Nerissa Bautista, the reigning MVP, and the returning Michelle Carolino of Santo Tomas as they try to lead and inspire their respective teams to a second straight win. FEU, meanwhile, hopes to display its old form when it thumped UP, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14, against a Lyceum side also reeling from a four-set setback to Ateneo two days ago. The Lady Tamaraws are expected to lean on guest player Tina Salak, who held the team together with her superb set plays against the Lady Maroons. The Lady Blazers are composed of guest players Maureen Penetrante and Ivy Remulla, Katty Kwan, Ren Agero, Giza Yumang, LC Quemada, Cindy Velasquez, and Zharmaine Velez. Penetrante and Remulla used to play for sister school De La Salle-Manila. The Diliman-based spikers are going all out to stop St. Benilde behind Southlyn Ramos, Rebecca Montero, May Genido, Cathy Barcelon and guest players Rubie de Leon and Danielle Castaneda. – GMANews.TV
