RP unfazed by China's show of sea strength


MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang is confident that China will still observe the code of conduct in the South China Sea as it insisted that it does not feel threatened by China’s recent show of strength as a sea power. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde on Saturday said that the dispute over the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea comes at a time of civilized and diplomatic way of resolving conflicts. “Hindi tayo nababahala sa show of strength ng China. Tayo ay naniniwala at nananalig sa hindi ito panahon ng giyera, ito ay panahon ng sibilisado at diplomatikong pamamaraan sa pag-resolve ng disputes," he said on government-run dzRB radio. Earlier this week, China made a naval display highlighting its status as a major sea power. The event included the first known public display of two China nuclear-powered Long March submarines that are capable of firing ballistic missiles.
