ZTE whistleblower Lozada will not resist arrest

MANILA, Philippines - When the arresting team comes, Rodolfo Noel “Jun" Lozada will freely go with them to jail. Lozada, the whistleblower in the allegedly anomalous $329-million national broad deal with ZTE Corp. that supposedly linked First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, on Tuesday said he would not resist arrest and would not appeal his case. “Nagpasya na ako na sumama sa kanila [I have decided to go with them]…No motion for appeal," Lozada said in an interview with a local radio station. Judge Jorge Emmanuel of the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court has reportedly signed Lozada’s warrant of arrest in connection with the perjury charge filed against him by former presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor. But Lozada was quick to add that his decision did not mean he was abandoning his cause. He said he had decided to face arrest and defend himself during hearings to show that he is not afraid of telling the "truth." “Naniniwala po kasi ako na ang kapangyarihan ng nang-aabuso ay katahimikan o takot ng biktima [I believe that the power of the abuser lies with the silence or fear of the victim]," he said. Lozada said he defied his counsels' advice. But he said he decided to face his case because he could no longer bear seeing his wife and children suffer. “I am facing 16 cases. Every time na dumating ang court notice, nato-trauma ang asawa ko…Di maiwasan na makita ng mga bata na umiiyak ang nanay nila [My wife gets traumatized every time I receive a court notice…We can’t hide it to the children every time their mother cries]," he said. Is he ready to get jailed? “Di ko masabi na nakahanda ako kasi di pa ko nakulong kahit kailan. Di ko maisip na darating sa buhay ko na ako ay makukulong [I can’t say that I’m prepared because I haven’t been imprisoned. I didn’t think that this will happen in my life]." Nonetheless, Lozada continues to have faith that through God, everything will turn out fine. “Kung meron po akong malaking aral, iyon ay ang totoong kabaliktaran ng takot ay pananampalataya. Na ang Diyos na ating pinaniniwalaan ay laging gising at gagabyan ako, [If I have a big lesson, it is realizing that the opposite of fear is faith. That the God that I believe in is always awake to guide me]. - GMANews.TV
