Metro almost crime-free during Pacquiao fight - police
MANILA, Philippines – Only one crime incident was reported in Metro Manila during the much awaited fight between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and British Ricky Hatton, police said Sunday. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said only one crime - a robbery incident - was reported between 8 a.m to 3 p.m. NCRPO head Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said still unidentified suspects robbed an Indian at 11:43 a.m. in Culiat village in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. Police are now in hot pursuit of the suspects. NCRPO records showed that an average of 24.25 crime incidents occurred in Metro Manila per day in 2008. In the first quarter of 2009, police had recorded an average of 24.56 crime incidents. Pacquiao on Sunday knocked out Hatton during the second round and carved his name in boxing history as the top pound-for-pound fighter. After Hatton went down twice in the first round, the People’s Champ Pacquiao upped the tempo in the second then ended the match with a left hook that rocked the “Hitman" cold. Pacquiao used two stinging hooks, first with a left and then with a right, to floor Hatton twice in the first.
