Guess who were booed at the Pacquiao-Hatton fight?

MANILA, Philippines - Some Filipinos booed two people while watching the big match between Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton last Sunday. One was the British fighter; the other was Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., whose advertisements popped up during commercial breaks of the widely watched boxing match on TV. This was according to some lawmakers, who took note that some people who watched the Pacquiao-Hatton fight Sunday appeared dismayed by Teodoro’s TV plug on disaster preparedness because it sounded more of a political ad than an infomercial. Besides, Teodoro had already announced that he might run for president in 2010. "Tingin ko dalawa yung casualty sa boxing kahapon: si Hatton, saka si Secretary Teodoro. Kasi doon sa pinuntahan ko talagang nagmumura yung mga tao nung lumabas yung ads e," Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño said in a press conference on Monday. [I think there were two casualties in the boxing yesterday: Hatton, and Secretary Teodoro. From where I was, people were cursing when the ads popped up.] Casiño said some of those watching the match with him in Nueva Ecija questioned why a politician has to air his or her advertisements during the widely watched match. "The public felt insulted," he said. Kabataan Rep. Raymond Palatino said Twitter - a social networking service that allows users to send and respond to updates on one's activities - was abuzz with comments slamming the government advertisements during the match, particularly those of the Defense chief. Palatino said the advertisements appeared to have hurt Teodoro's chances of being favored by the Web-savvy for the 2010 elections. "Sa mga nabasa ko sa Internet, mukhang nawalan siya ng boto sa mga netizens… [Based on what I read on the Internet, it looks like he lost some votes among netizens]," he said in the same press conference. "Sa mga ordinaryong mamamayan sa tingin ko hindi nila napansin rin yun dahil sa si Manny Pacquiao yung kanilang inaabangan [I think ordinary citizens did not notice that much because they were awaiting Manny Pacquiao]," Palatino added. Casiño said politicians should exercise more sensitivity when choosing where to place their political advertisements, noting that politicians' advertisements in previous Pacquiao matches were likewise criticized. - Jam Sisante, GMANews.TV
