Cory's operation went smoothly - Kris

MANILA, Philippines – The colon operation on former President Corazon Aquino went smoothly, her daughter Kristina Bernadette "Kris" Aquino-Yap said Monday. "We are now back in her surgical ICU (intensive care unit) room. Doctors are confident about her procedure and eventual recovery. Operation was smooth, all her vitals are good," Kris said in a text message to GMA News. Mrs. Aquino on Monday morning underwent operation to remove a part of her colon affected with cancer at the Makati Medical Center. Kris said her mother was at the operating room from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mrs. Aquino, who was installed president following a people-backed military uprising in 1986, is 76 years old. She was diagnosed of the illness in March 2008. Kris said she is the only one inside the ICU keeping watch on her mother. She added that her mother is "in reverse isolation and only immediate family is allowed inside." The television personality then called on the public anew to pray for her mother. Earlier, Senator Benigno Aquino III expressed optimism that despite her mother's age, the former Philippine leader would surpass the operation. "Yun nga hindi naman bata ang nanay ko [pero] parang totoo nga [ang] sinasabi niya sa akin, better health pa siya than me [My mom is no longer young but I believe there is still some truth to her statement that she is in better health than I am]," Senator Aquino said. He said he was able to talk to her mother Saturday after they attended Mass. He said Mrs. Aquino was on a partial fasting then. "She was the one who decided [on the operation]. Ready na siya for this, full spectrum ng treatment [she is now ready for full spectrum treatment]," Senator Aquino said. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
