FEU ties UST atop V-League

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University held off Saint Benilde, 25-10, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22, to extend its win run to three in the sixth Shakey’s V-League at the FilOil Arena. Rachel Daquis, still recovering from a bout with flu, fired 23 points, including two blocks and a down-the-line hit that anchored the Lady Tams’ fightback from 13-17 down in the fourth set for a 23-21 cushion on their way to victory. Cherry Vivas and Maica Morada backed Daquis with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Guest players Maureen Penetrante and Ivy Remulla combined for 21 hits for St. Benilde, which fell to 1-3. With Vivas on the firing end, the Lady Tams broke away from a tight 8-6 game and into an 18-8 lead to dominate the opening frame. But the Lady Blazers came out of the next set an organized lot, scoring on five service aces and pouncing on a couple of FEU errors to draw level. But the Lady Tams buckled down to work in the third set but sputtered again in the early going of the fourth before Daquis took over and powered the team to the romp. –GMANews.TV
