MPD starts preparations for hero's welcome for Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines - This early, the Manila Police District (MPD) has started preparations for a hero's welcome for Filipino boxing champ Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported Tuesday the MPD is coordinating with "Team Pacquiao" handlers to make sure no untoward incident would occur on Pacquiao's return. The Filipino boxing idol is expected to return to the Philippines later this week following his two-round demolition of British fighter Ricky Hatton. Acting MPD head Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Magtibay said they are focusing on security at the Quiapo Church, one of Pacquiao's first destinations after returning from his fights abroad. Magtibay noted Pacquiao is a devotee of the Black Nazarene. Other than Quiapo Church, Pacquiao traditionally makes a courtesy call to President Arroyo in Malacañang. Earlier, President Arroyo ordered a national day of celebration after Pacquiao's win over Hatton in Las Vegas Sunday (Manila time). - GMANews.TV
