Packing a punch: Stats show how Pacquiao pummeled Hatton

MANILA, Philippines - It was a mismatch the way it looked inside the ring. The numbers afterward were no different. Not that it matters in a lopsided result, still, statistics furnished by CompuBox further illustrated Manny Pacquiao's dominance over Ricky Hatton in its updated report. Pacquiao threw 65 of 105 (62 percent) power punches, compared to Hatton's measly 16 of 56 (29 percent). Per round, Pacquiao averaged 64 punches thrown to Hatton's 39. Overall, Pacquiao tagged 73 of 127 times (57 percent), while Hatton could connect on only 18 of 78 (23 percent). Hatton's numbers are clearly off compared to his last fight versus Paulie Malignani in November. The Brit averaged 46.9 punches per round in that bout that lasted 11 rounds and ended in a TKO win for Hatton. Percentage-wise, Pacquiao's power numbers were nearly as high as when he faced Oscar de la Hoya last December. Against De la Hoya, Pacquiao landed 59 percent of his power punches (195 of 333), while averaging 73 punches thrown in the fight that went eight rounds. –GMANews.TV
