Pacquiao as Usec for sports?

MANILA, Philippines – The government is giving him titles such as “ambassador for peace and understanding" and “special assistant to the Justice secretary on intelligence matters" but Manny Pacquiao could be better off getting a title closest to his expertise. According to Sen. Panfilo Lacson, the boxing champion will be fit to serve in sports. “Pinakamagaling siya sa buong mundo kaya kung undersecretary for sports, pwedeng-pwede," Lacson said in a media interview aired on Unang Hirit. In the present setup, though, there is no such thing as a Department of Sports. The government arm for sport is the Philippine Sports Commission, a body attached to the Office of the President composed of a chairman and four commissioners. Aside from the PSC, the President may also name a Presidential adviser on youth and sports, a position previously held by former Manila sports chief Ali Atienza and during actor-sportsman Richard Gomez. Pacquiao, boxing’s pound-for-pound king who was recently named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, is apparently bent more on getting a new title – congressman – next year. The Pacman is currently in Sarangani, the province he intends to “offer his services" to in the 2010 pools after a failed bid to win a seat in South Cotabato three years ago. –GMANews.TV
