Archuleta says he used to be called 'smiley boy'

MANILA, Philippines - Even American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta had his own share of name-calling in high school. “When I was in school, people used to call me smiley boy," Archuleta said Friday during Magic 89.9’s radio show. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter said his classmates thought it was too weird how he could always smile. “They’re like, it’s so creepy you smile so much," he said. His smile, however, earned him a 2008 Teen Choice Award for Best Smile and the adoration of legions of fans. "It’s so neat just getting to meet kids who look up to you, it’s really cool," he said. [See: Archuleta as awed by fans as they are of him] But when he was asked what makes him smile, the American crooner just answered “I dunno." “I don’t know, there’s just a lot to be happy about I guess," he said. And he definitely has a lot to be happy about – an international career, a great following, and a chart-topping self-titled debut album. Archuleta added that he’s probably just a positive person. “I’m just trying to look at the brighter side of things, just trying to see the positive things in life," he said. He and Idol winner David Cook will be holding a back-to-back concert at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on Saturday at 8 p.m. - GMANews.TV
