Carjackers active in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines - Car thieves steal an average of three cars a day around Metro Manila, prompting authorities to advise motorists to equip their vehicles with anti-theft devices. According to a report aired on primetime TV news 24 Oras, the NCRPO recorded 349 car theft cases from January to April of this year. From April to May 15, police listed 86 cases. The report said the southern part of Manila had the highest incidents with 107 cases from January to April. The Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela area registered the lowest car thefts (74 cases). The report added that most of the stolen cars were sport utility vehicles (SUV). "That should set an alarm for commanders as the crime poses grave threat not just to the security of citizens but to the economy as well," NCRPO spokesman Supt. Rommel Miranda said. Miranda also advised owners to buy car alarms or steering wheel locks to protect themselves from thieves. - A.B. See, GMANews.TV
