A dream come true: Pacquiao’s mom celebrates 60th birthday like a debutante

MANILA, Philippines - The party that Manny Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia, has been waiting for all her life came true Friday night, as she celebrated her 60th birthday like a debutante in General Santos City. Clad in her violet gown, Aling Dionisia, as she is fondly called, was escorted by no less than her son, the world's pound-for-pound boxing king. But unlike her mother, who was dressed to the nines, Manny was casually dressed in his collared shirt. GMA News' Joseph Morong said guests welcomed her with a birthday song as she walked down the red carpet. He added that Aling Dionisia's 80-year-old mother was also present at the lavish party to celebrate with her daughter. Morong quoted Pacquiao's grandmother as saying that her daughter wanted this kind of birthday bash when she was still 18 years old but they were not able to give her one due to poverty. In capping the party, Aling Dionisia performed several dance numbers including a tango and an impromptu dance with Manny. Indeed, the report said, the party was "a big ballroom night" for Aling Dionisia and her hundreds of guests. - A.B. See, GMANews.TV
