LONDON — British health authorities have confirmed five new cases of swine flu, bringing the country's total to 117.
The Health Protection Authority said Friday that two of the cases are located in London, two in southeast England, and one in the West Midlands.
Two of the cases are travelers who recently returned from an affected area, one is linked to a previously confirmed case, and the cause of the other two cases is under investigation.
Britain has the most swine flu cases in Europe.
The virus in Britain has generally been mild and no one has died from swine flu in the country. But Britain's criteria only tests people for swine flu if they have traveled to North America recently or if they were contacts of a confirmed case.
That means authorities are not looking for the virus in communities, and they could potentially be missing many cases. - AP
