Mga batang tumitigil sa pag-aaral sa elementarya dumadami

MANILA – Nababahala si Senandor Francis Escudero sa pagtaas ng bilang ng mga batang hindi nakapag-aaral sa elementarya na umabot na umano sa mahigit 12 milyon nitong sa 2007-2008 school year dahil sa kahirapan.
Batay umano sa ulat ng United Nations Development Program (UNDP), umabot sa 12.08 milyon ang bilang ng mga bata na tumigil sa pag-aaral noong 2007-2008 school year sa elementary level mula sa dating 12.03 milyon sa nakalipas na taon.
“Public education, which should be the government’s priority, is taking a hit. We are seeing government actually divesting in the country’s future rather than investing in it because it neglects the welfare of public school students," pahayag ni Escudero.
Lumabas din sa ulat ng Global Education Digest 2008 ng United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) na ang Pilipinas ang may pinakamababang budget sa bawat estudyante sa buong Asya.
Sinabi ni Escudero na kayang lutasin ang problema kung maglalaan lang ng mas malaking pondo ang gobyerno sa edukasyon para madagdagan ang mga silid-paaralan, guro, at iba pang mga pangunahing pangangailangan sa eskuwelahan.
Sa pagtataya ng Department of Education, aabot sa 39,000 ang kinakailangang bagong guro, 7,000 bagong silid at apat na milyong upuan para matugunan ang mga kakulangan ngayong taon.
“The government should make sure that no student is forced to drop out for reasons that could otherwise be addressed by no-nonsense approach to education. The government needs to be reminded that education is the right of every Filipino, We don’t need pa-pogi posturing that are long on photo-ops and short on real solutions. Unless you have solutions, you become part of the problem," pahayag ng mambabatas. - GMANews.TV
