Pinoy fighters beat Tazmanian foes for WBO crowns

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino pugs Jundy "Pretty Boy" Maraon and Rommel "Little Assassin" Asenjo defeated their respective Tanzanian challengers over the weekend at the Meidina Gymnasium in Ozamiz City. Maraon, the pride of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, defeated Anthony Mathias in the featured match of the "War in Ozamiz: Asia versus Africa," the first boxing card held in city after three decades, to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific title. The 24-year-old Maraon sent down Mathias for the third time with two minutes and six second going into the sixth round of the scheduled 12-round encounter to win via technical knockout (TKO) and defend the title he won last February for the first time. In the featured undercard, Asejo cemented his reputation as knockout artist when he sent Sadiki Abdulazizi down with two minutes and 59 seconds gone in the first round of the 12-round bout to gain the vacant mini-flyweight Oriental title. Asenjo booked his 12th win in 14 matches, all via knockouts. - GMANews.TV
