'Famous' person leaked Hayden's videos - Jamby

WRONG GUY. Sen. Jamby Madrigal says a personality more famous than Hayden Kho Jr's fraternity pal was behind the spread of the sex footage. PEP/Senate
MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Ma. Ana Consuelo Madrigal on Tuesday claimed that a relatively well-known personality – and not Erik Johnston Chua – leaked the controversial sex videos of celebrity doctor Hayden Kho Jr. Madrigal, in a radio interview, branded as wrong Optical Media Board’s earlier claim that Chua – Kho’s fraternity brother who is believed to have obtained a copy of the videos – was behind the proliferation of the private footage all over the Internet. “Mayroon akong information, pero ayaw pa lumabas para mag-corroborate, na nagsasabi na hindi naman si Chua ang bumili at nagkalat [I have information – which still need corroboration – indicating that Chua did not steal then sell the videos," the senator said. Madrigal chairs the Senate committee on youth, women and family relations, and would be heading the upper chamber’s probe on the controversial leaking of videos showing Kho performing lewd acts with various women including sexy actress Katrina Halili. While virtually getting Chua off the hook on the controversy, Madrigal still refused to drop the name of the real culprit in stealing and leaking of the video, pending further verification of her staff. “Hindi ko masabi hanggang may magco-corroborate ng evidence… Hindi naman magandang manira ng pangalan ng isang tao kasi hindi pa nakokorobate [I can’t identify the person until after corroborating the evidence. It’s not good to destroy someone’s reputation without evidence]," Madrigal said. Chua has been invited by the National Bureau of Investigation last week to help shed light on the sex controversy. Also invited by the NBI were Kho, girlfriend Dr. Victoria “Vicki" Belo, and schoolmate Bistek Rosario. Kho had already admitted that he was the one who covertly recorded his sexual encounters on tape, but said he was not the one who uploaded them on the Web. Just the same, Kho offered his apology to the people who took offense on his acts, especially the women seen in the videos. “Condemn the sin, not the sinner," a somber-looking Kho told reporters last week. Halili considered the apology insufficient and said the controversial doctor should still be sanctioned. The camp of sexy actress said Belo was the only person in possession of the hard disk containing the footage. The provincial council of Palawan, of which Halili is a native, on Wednesday adopted a resolution declaring Kho a persona non grata in the island province. Liabilities Madrigal said that even if Kho had been denying he disseminated the videos, he would still be liable for other offenses like recording his sexual encounters without his partners’ consent and having sex with a minor. Actress-commercial model Maricar Reyes was reportedly still a minor — 17 years old — when her steamy footage with Kho was shot. However, equally important matters to look at in connection with the controversy was how the sexvideos got in the hands of other people, and who sold the video’s rights, according to Madrigal. “Ang importante sino ang nag-break-in at may access sa computer ni Hayden. Malamang hindi siya ang nagpakalat pero sino ang nag-break-in at nagbenta nito [What is important is who gained access to Kho’s computer, stole the files, and then sold them]," she said. Public or private hearing? Kho’s legal counsel Lorna Kapunan had already sent a letter to Madrigal Tuesday expressing willingness to participate in the Senate probe on the sex controversy, albeit under one condition. Kapunan requested that the hearing be conducted in executive session, saying that further publicity would only aggravate the situation and put people involved under more public humiliation. The investigation starts on Thursday. A number of people – from the women seen in the videos to the fraternity brothers and mother of Kho – had become embroiled in the controversy. Merchants of illegally-copied DVDs had also jumped in the bandwagon and began selling the poor quality videos for as much as P300 per disc. Apart from Halili, the video footage – thought to have been stolen from Kho’s personal computer – also showed other women getting intimate with the doctor including Reyes and a Brazilian model. Disputing earlier reports that Kho was in possession of over 40 sex videos, Kapunan said that her client only had videos with four women – the fourth being Belo. Others invited to attend the Senate hearing were Belo, Halili through lawyers Marlito Tan and Raymund Palad; Reyes through manager Cecille Carpio; Chua; Lolit Solis; OMB chairman Edu Manzano, Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral; and Human Rights chairperson Leila de Lima. The Senate investigation stemmed from the privilege speech of Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. entitled “A Doctor’s Perversity," where he scored Kho for recording her sexual activities with the women without their consent and posting it on the Internet. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
