Revilla vows: No more circus in 2nd hearing on sex video

MANILA, Philippines - There will be no more "circus" when the Senate holds its second hearing on the "Hayden cam" scandal, Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. promised Friday. Revilla, whose privilege speech denouncing Kho for the spread of the doctor's sex video with actress Katrina Halili on the Internet triggered the probe, indicated the next hearing would be more technical. "There will be a Part Two pero ang Part Two hindi na kasama si Kat at si (Kho), naka-focus na sa bill. Ang iniiwasan nga, ayaw natin, baka magmumukhang circus [There will be a second hearing but actress-model Katrina Irene Halili and Kho will not be there. We are also doing everything not to turn this into a circus]," he said in an interview on dzXL radio. The Senate received flak for turning the hearing into a circus by allowing Halili and Kho to face each other. Thursday's hearing of the Senate Committee on Women, Children and Family Relations depicted a mixture of drama, action and comedy, an earlier report on GMANews.TV said. “This is a highly charged issue. Kaya kung sana maiwasan, sana ayoko nang mag-hearing [If it can be avoided, I don’t want to conduct this hearing]," admitted Senator Ma. Ana Consuelo “Jamby" Madrigal, the chairperson of the committee. Madrigal had to use a gavel to keep order inside the Geronima Pecson Room, where the hearing was held. Resource persons, reporters, Senate employees and kibitzers poured into the hearing venue. Halili and her two lawyers were the first to arrive. The crowd, which included members of feminist organizations cheered. But when Kho arrived - accompanied by his lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, and mother, Irene – the crowd had mixed reactions. While there were those who taunted him and called him “Manyak [Pervert]," there were those who could not help but gush on his good looks. “Ang guwapo pala talaga ni Hayden Kho [Hayden is really handsome]!" one female Senate employee said. T-shirts bearing the words “Beware of Hayden camera" and “I’m never gonna dance again" were also distributed, with the latter an excerpt from the song “Careless Whisper" which Kho and Halili were singing in one of their four videos. Commotion erupted when Kho was brought into the hearing by Kapunan through the room’s back door. Pictures were taken of the controversial doctor. Next, it was Halili who entered the room. Her entrance, however, was almost overshadowed when somebody poured water at Kho. Abner Afuang, an ex-cop and a tabloid columnist, said he poured water on Kho because of disgust. Members of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms arrested him upon orders from Madrigal. Revilla admitted he was not fully satisfied with Thursday's hearing, saying he still had many questions to ask the other resource persons. He said he had planned to quiz representatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Optical Media Board. He said he could not avoid asking Halili and Kho because they were the central figures in the scandal. But he was disgusted about way some sectors tried to divert the issue. - GMANews.TV
