Burger King, Barako Bull swap players to beat trade deadline

MANILA, Philippines – Burger King has done a last minute revision to shore up its frontline. Before the clock struck 12:00 noon Saturday, Burger King and Barako Bull management agreed to switch players with the Whoppers shipping hardworking rookie forward Chad Alonzo to the Energy Boosters while acquiring Carlo Sharma from the Photokina franchise. Both franchises beat the trade deadline imposed by the Philippine Basketball Association. The move is definitely beneficial to the Whoppers, who will have an additional size inside the paint with Sharma’s inclusion. Burger King coach Yeng Guiao, who coached Sharma with the Red Bull Barakos for the past few years, welcomed the development and said that the former La Salle center’s inclusion will be a big help for their campaign. “He will definitely be a big help for us," said Guiao. “He won’t have problems adjusting with the system because he played with me before. We have become bigger now and become tougher inside." Guiao said Sharma attended the team’s practice Saturday and was impressed on how his long-time ward played with his new teammates. “He had a nice practice with us, although I am having second thoughts on using him tomorrow (Sunday). I would most likely field him on Wednesday as I don’t want to disrupt the game plan we already have," added Guiao. For Burger King team manager and incoming PBA chairman Lito Alvarez, having Sharma on board is a preparation for the Whoppers’ next season’s campaign. “We don’t feel much about the lack of size we’re having because Shawn Daniels is still here," said Alvarez. “But we certainly need him more in the All-Filipino." – GMANews.TV
