'The Glider' and 'Dolphin Photographs'

Episode on June 3, 2009 Wednesday ngith after Saksi In Bohol, Kiko searches for an animal known as “the glider". It gracefully moves in the forest, “flying" as it were, from tree to tree. The animal is called colugo, and is said to be the closest relative of humans after monkeys and apes. Kiko’s journey takes him to a forest, where not only colugo, but other interesting beings dwell. But he must be quiet, steady, and watchful, because this animal, rarely seen by humans because of its nocturnal nature, is also on the lookout for outsiders like Kiko! They are swift, and glide away at the presence of newcomers. But the encounter, if successful, will be a window to understanding how the secrets of nature can be harnessed for human technology. Experts say that the colugo’s gliding technique is used in modern aircraft designs. But will Kiko be lucky enough to see this elusive creature? Three months after the rescue of stranded oceanic dolphins called melon-headed whales, Doc Ferds reunites with marine mammal experts to continue efforts to study and save these marine mammals. Taňon strait, between Negros and Cebu, is a known dolphin path and popular destination for dolphin watching. Experts are on a mission to photograph these dolphins in an effort to identify them and monitor whether their numbers are growing or decreasing. Marine mammal experts are alarmed however because of activities in the area believed to disrupt dolphin behavioral patterns. These include oil explorations, unregulated dolphin watching, and commercial fishing along Taňon strait. Catch these stories on Born to be Wild airing on Wednesday after Saksi!
