LPA may trigger flash floods, landslides – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - State weather forecasters on Thursday warned that a low pressure area (LPA) spotted in Luzon is expected to bring rains that may trigger landslides and flashfloods in the country. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was plotted 970 kilometers east of extreme Luzon. It added that southwest monsoon is also affecting Luzon. "Luzon will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides over the western section. Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," the bulletin read. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere winds will be light to moderate coming from the south and southwest with slight to moderate seas except during thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
