Ruby Rose father-in-law, 6 others face murder charges

MANILA, Philippines – Murder charges are being readied against seven people including the father-in-law of Ruby Rose Barrameda-Jimenez, actress Rochelle Barrameda’s sister, whose remains were found inside a metal box Wednesday, two years after she disappeared. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday said they are preparing the murder complaints against the father-in-law, lawyer Manuel Jimenez II and his brother, Lope Jimenez. Ruby Rose and her husband, Manuel Jimenez III, had been separated since December 2006. In January 2007, she filed a temporary protection order and writ of habeas corpus before a Las Piñas Court to work out the custody of their two children. The petition was filed after the Jimenez family took the children away from Ruby Rose. In an exclusive interview with GMA News, the older Jimenez said the custody battle is still unsettled. He also denied that he and his brother were behind Ruby Rose's death. The Barrameda family’s last contact with Ruby Rose was in March 2007. Rochelle claimed the Jimenez family did not cooperate in looking for her sister, prompting her to report the disappearance to the police. Also facing charges are Eric Fernandez, Spike Discalzo, Roberto Ponce alias Abet, Rudy de la Cruz and Manuel Montero. Montero is the informant who led police into discovering the metal box containing Ruby Rose’s body buried at the bottom of the Manila Bay. Rochelle and her father identified the remains as that of Ruby Rose. Dental records also confirmed Ruby’s identity. Police said Ruby was abducted in March 2007. Crime Laboratory authorities said she was possibly strangled to death. Police were able to identify the suspects based on the accounts of Montero, who confessed to the crime. In the GMA News interview, the older Jimenez said they are ready to face the charges against them. “Hindi natin babaguhin ang mga isip nila. Dapat hinaharap namin ito eh. Baka sabihin nila [nagtatago kami]," Jimenez told GMA News reporter Steve Dailisan. “Ang akin, kung anu-ano ang salita nila. Pero hindi ko papatulan. At ayoko rin naman ng street talk. Hindi naman kami sa showbiz," he added. Jimenez said it was impossible for him and his brother to have colluded in the crime since they have not been communicating for quite some time. He also denied knowing Montero and added that he rarely drops by the fish port where Ruby Rose’s body was found. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV
