MANILA, Philippines – San Beda College dominated NCAA rival San Sebastian College the entire match coasting to an 85-69 win over the weekend to bag the Nike Summer League title at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The Red Lions, seeking a fourth straight NCAA crown, held the Stags to just six points in the fourth quarter.
"Talagang pursugido iyong mga players," said head coach Frankie Lim. "We want to make a statement for the opening of the NCAA. This is a good statement."
Garvo Lanete and Bam Gamalinda scored 16 points each to lead San Beda’s scoring while Jake Pascual added 15 markers and five rebounds. Gamalinda also had seven rebounds and three assists.
Jessmar Villahermosa and league most valuable player Sudan Daniels combined for 24 points.
Joining the American import in the Mythical Team are teammate JR Tecson, San Sebastian’s Jimbo Aquino, Reymar Gutilban of Letran and RR Garcia of Far Eastern University.
Aquino topped the Golden Stags with 18 points while Dave Najorda finished with 12 markers and seven rebounds.
In the battle for third, FEU escaped with a 70-69 win over Letran.
Cameroon import Pippo Noundou gave the Tamaraws a five-point cushion, 69-64, with 33 seconds to go.
However, the Knights came back but fell short as Kevin Alas missed a game-tying three-pointer in the dying seconds before Jam Cortes scored on a putback for the final tally. – GMANews.TV
