9 areas under signal 1 as ALPA intensifies

MANILA, Philippines - At least nine areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 early Tuesday after an active low pressure area (ALPA) in the Visayas intensified into tropical depression "Feria." Under Signal No. 1 were Samar provinces, Leyte provinces, Camotes Islands, Biliran Island, Northern Cebu, Bohol, Dinagat Island, Siargao, and Surigao del Norte. "Residents living in low-lying areas and mountainous areas under Signal No. 1 are alerted against possible flashloods and landslides," the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. In its 5 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said tropical depression "Feria" was estimated at 210 km east southeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar as of 4 a.m. But Pagasa forecaster Elvie Enriquez said this will bring little "relief" to residents in Metro Manila, who she said will continue to experience humidity.
