NDCC: 1 dead, 7 missing as ‘Feria’ pounds Cebu


MANILA, Philippines - At least one person from Cebu was confirmed dead while seven people were reported missing in the wake of tropical storm "Feria," the National Disaster Coordinating Council said Wednesday. In its 8 a.m. report Wednesday, the NDCC said the still-unidentified fatality was from Hilutungan in Bantayan Island in Cebu province, and that the cause of death was drowning. Reported missing was fisherman Wilmo Cantilan of Pulang Bato village in Bogo town in Cebu, believed driven by the storm toward Isabel in Leyte province. Also missing were five people from Eastern Samar identified as Rey Pelague, Rudy Bederos, Potenciano Amante, Boyboy Cabanatan, and Justino Munda. Also reported missing was a four-year-old child from Sitio Agbunyog in Concepcion Sur village in Sta. Maria town in Romblon province. The NDCC also said at least 44 families or 221 people in Tacloban City, Biliran and Can-avid in Eastern Samar were affected by Feria. It said a tornado destroyed 20 houses in Can-avid in Eastern Samar, while three more houses were destroyed in Sitio Nabang in Concepcion Sur village in Sta. Maria town, Romblon. Flooding was reported in parts of southern Luzon, with a power failure hitting Bauan in Batangas since Tuesday. - GMANews.TV
