Oops, it did it again: For the second time in two days, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) lowered the death toll from tropical storm "Feria" (Nangka), pegging the count at 10 as of Friday night.
In its 6 p.m. report, the NDCC said the 10 included five fishermen in Quezon province; one who drowned in Cebu; two who died in a landslide in Cagayan de Oro; and two who drowned in Aklan.
The NDCC's 1 p.m. report pegged the death toll at 11, saying there were two fatalities from Cebu, including two-year-old Junjun Barica who drowned in Bantayan, Cebu. Barica was not mentioned in the 6 p.m. report.
On Thursday noon, the NDCC brought down the death toll from eight to seven, saying Vicente Layage and another fatality who was not immediately identified turned out to be “one and the same."
In Friday night's update, the NDCC did not explain why Barica was excluded from the list of fatalities.
Meanwhile, NDCC said six remained missing and five were reported injured.
At least 14,042 families or 62,837 people from 226 villages in 15 provinces in Southern Luzon, Bicol, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, and Metro Manila were affected.
Damage to property was estimated at P136.872 million, including P95.15 million to property and P41.722 million to agriculture. - GMANews.TV
