NDCC: Damage by storm Feria breaches P200M


MANILA, Philippines — Damage to property caused by tropical storm "Feria" exceeded P200 million as of Saturday noon, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said. In its latest report, the NDCC said the damage included P41.722 million in agriculture, and P149.05 million in infrastructure. Damage also included P1.278 million in transmission lines and P12.5 million in government health facilities. At least 21,949 families or 99,357 people in 307 villages in 17 provinces in Southern Luzon, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Bicol and Metro Manila were affected. The death toll stood at 10. Some six remained missing while five were injured. Some 826 houses were destroyed and 6,267 were damaged. The NDCC said 19 transmission lines were damaged in the islands of Panay, Samar and Leyte. At least 14 road sections and 18 bridges were closed to traffic due to landslides, floods, and washed-out, hanging or eroded approaches and road slips. Feria is the 6th tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this year. An average of 20 cyclones enter the country each year. - GMANews.TV
