1 killed, 9 hurt as bus falls into ravine in Davao

MANILA, Philippines — At least one person was reported killed and nine others were injured after a bus they were riding fell into a ravine in Davao del Sur province Saturday night.

Bombo Radyo said the bus was heading for Malita town in Davao del Sur from Davao City when the brakes of the ACF bus (body number 5400) failed.

The fatality was initially identified as Arnel Masunong, 27, a baker and a resident of Nawasa in Malita town. His brother Rudy said Arnel died from a head injury.

Nine other passengers were rushed to the Malita District Hospital. At least four of them were in critical condition and transferred to Davao City, the report said.

Eight of the injured were identified as bus driver Demie Castillar; conductor Antonio Katok; Rey Garcia; Maricil Saranya, a nurse who suffered chemical burns; Baby Jane Guia, 8; Felipe Guia; Jay Sirvano, 30; and Rosalin Macado. - GMANews.TV
