Negros youth chorale wins 24 medals at US tilt

A Negros-based youth choral ensemble did the country proud after winning 16 gold medals in a performing arts competition in Los Angeles, California.
The Young Voices of Negros Philippines also bagged eight silver medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts held in Los Angeles from July 11 to 19.
Online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) reported the ensemble also won the star trophy for being the 2009 Junior Grand Champion of World Vocal Group.
Led by mentor Art Madrigal, the choir is composed of Madrigal siblings Ma. Ana Katrina and Kristopherson, and Aissa Mae Mateos.
The group won four golds in the junior vocal group category of R&B (“I Will Survive"), Pop (“Listen"), Original (“So This Is America"), and as grand finalist.
It won four silvers for the Open (“And I am Telling You"), and Gospel (“How Great Thou Art") categories.
The World Championship of Performing Arts is an annual competition for talents including acting, singing, dancing, and modeling.
According to the Visayan Daily Star, five Filipino performing artists who have won the global competition’s top prizes are: Jed Madela (2005 grand champion vocalist of the world and grand champion performer of the world), Cercado Sisters (2006 grand champion group vocalists of the world), Reymond Sajor (2007 grand champion vocalist of the world), Aria Clemente (2007 grand champion vocalist of the world and grand champion performer of the world), and Catherine Loria (2008 grand champion vocalist of the world and grand champion performer of the world.) - GMANews.TV
