Calderon tops cycling tryout

Former national riders, led by Padyak Pinoy 2009 champion Joel Calderon, dominated the third leg of the National Cycling Tryouts over the weekend in Tanay, Rizal. The 21-year-old Calderon posted an impressive time of 46:24.01 in the 25K individual time trial to beat a crew of ex-RP team mainstays led by Emilito Atilano, who settled for second with 48:36.02. Finishing behind Calderon and Atilano were Irish Valenzuela, two-time tour champion Warren Davadilla, former Tour champ Arnei Quirimit and second leg winner Benito Lopez. Rounding out the top ten were first leg winner Rey Martin, tour veteran Ninoy Bolloser, and national rider Erick Feliciano and John Paul Morales. Though Lopez finished only sixth in the ITT, he still leads in the point system which will be used in evaluating the members of the RP team. The final day of the tryout, another 25K ITT, will be held at the Quezon City Memorial Circle this week. - GMANews.TV
