Noynoy wants Kris spared from politics

Senator Benigno Simeon Aquino III, the only son of late former President Corazon Aquino, wants his youngest sister, television personality Kris Aquino-Yap, spared from politics. “I would spare her if possible. Kung meron naman isa na samin, wag naman lahat," Sen. Aquino told reporters in an interview Thursday at the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish in Quezon City where a Mass was held for Mrs. Aquino. Sen. Aquino’s statement came after Kris claimed that she and her only brother were left to continue what their parents started. "Noy, ikaw at ako ang nasa posisyon para ipagpatuloy ang lahat ng kanilang nasimulan (Noy, you and I are in the position to continue what our parents have started)," Kris said in her speech at the Requiem Mass for Mrs. Aquino at the Manila Cathedral on Wednesday. Mrs. Aquino's late husband, Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., was the leader of the opposition during the Marcos regime. He was assassinated in 1983 upon his return to the country from the United States. Three years later, his widow played the biggest role in ending the Marcos dictatorship through the historic EDSA Power Power uprising. Sen. Aquino said he did not have any intention of seeking higher post yet. “I do not relish aspiring for a higher office at this point in time. The focus should be on performing my functions and my duties and responsibilities in this present mode and I have to highlight that given the current administration we are not in normal situation," he said. - GMANews.TV
