PNP athletes win at world police-fire games in Canada

The Philippine National Police (PNP) earned more honors for the country after its athletes won in events at the World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.
An article on the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website (www.dfa.gov.ph) said the World Police and Fire Games started July 31 and will be held up to August 9.
It said the PNP team won two gold medals and two silver medals at the table tennis and walkathon competitions at the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG).
PO3 Rodel Ireneo Valle and PO1 Henberd Ortalla won the gold medal for the Men’s Doubles event in table tennis held on August 3 while PO1 Ortalla and SPO2 Maria Teresa Denieca won the silver medal for mixed doubles.
For his part, PO2 Jesus Cuntapay Jr. also bagged a silver medal in the walkathon competition on August 1.
Other members of the PNP delegation headed by Senior Superintendent Jesus Gordon Descanzo include table tennis team coach Senior Superintendent Roberto Fajardo, coordinator Inspector Rodolfo Nevado, team coordinator SPO1 Emma Abuzu, PO3 Joel Hornada for single tennis; and table tennis head coach PO3 Jose Ortallo Jr.
The WPFG is a biennial athletic event open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world. The WPFG Federation is an arm of the California Police Athletic Federation, an American organization.
British Columbia hosts this year’s Games, which is the largest in the event’s 26-year history. There are 10,577 registered athletes from 57 countries.
The next WPFG will be held in New York City, USA in 2011 and Belfast, Ireland in 2013.
According to the DFA, the Games offer as many as 60 sporting events (and almost 80 disciplines), including angling, wrestling and pistol shooting.
