Noynoy not keen on inheriting ‘ills’ of Arroyo govt

Senator Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III on Monday said he is not keen on inheriting the “ills" of the Arroyo government as he shrugged off calls for him to run for president in next year’s elections. "I would be the inheritor of everything that she (President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo) has wrought in this country and (I) will be the one tasked to correct everything, all the ills that had been done… It's no joke," he said. Sen. Aquino, the only son of the late former President Corazon “Cory" Aquino, made the statement following reports that his political group, the Liberal Party, is open to have him as its standard bearer in the 2010 national elections. Calls for Sen. Aquino to run for either president or vice president grew in the wake of his mother’s death last August 1. Sen. Aquino said he is not inclined to seek higher office but admitted that he is having second thoughts when he remembers an old adage he heard from Mrs. Aquino: “If I could have done something and I chose not to, I don’t know how I will forgive myself." He however said that unlike Mrs. Aquino, he is yet to feel the sense of obligation that his mother had. “I am not hearing yet the sense of obligation that says this is the only road to do it," Sen. Aquino said. “Pag nadama ko yung kailangan talaga at ako ‘yung dapat tumugon ay hindi ako aatras sa aking responsibilidad (Once I feel the need that I have to answer the people’s call. I would not back out from my responsibility)," he added. Though still grieving, the senator went back to work Monday, less than a week after his mother was buried at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City. “Ano ba yung value na nasa kwarto ka, magmumukmok ka, tatanong mo yung lahat ng bakit na tanong na wala namang sagot sa ngayon tapos hindi mo nagagampanan yung dapat mong gampanan," Sen. Aquino said. (Why sulk in your room and ask questions that have no answers when you can be outside performing your duty.) - GMANews.TV
