WNCAA top squads remain clean in respective divisions


Three teams kept their respective win-loss records clean in the 40th WNCAA basketball tournament at the St. Scholastica’s College gym. Defending champion Lyceum togethern with College of St. Benilde and University of Asia and the Pacific remain clean after three games in the senior’s basketball tournament. The Lady Blazers, last year's runner-up to the Lady Pirates, started the one-sided victories of the top teams with a 79-44 triumph over the Centro Escolar University Scorpions in Senior A division. Veteran Julie Ann Paras led the Lady Blazers’ offense finishing with 14 markers to help the Taft-based school to its third straight win. The Lady Pirates followed CSB’s route and dumped Philippine Women's University Patriots, 65-40. Jessica Polindey anchored the Lady Pirates win with her 22 markers while Jona Yasay added 13 points as the defending champs posted their third consecutive triumph. In Senior B division, UA&P scored a 58-45 win over San Beda with Aurora Biolena scoring 21 points for the Dragons. St. Scholastica’s remained in second place in the Senior A category with an 80-71 victory against Rizal Technological University. The Scions, powered by Kate del Rosario’s 24 markers, bagged their second win. Emilio Aguinaldo College outlasted La Consolacion College-Manila, 40-34, for a 1-1 card in Senior B. LCC dropped to 1-2. In junior’s division, Miriam College, rookie squad St. Jude Catholic School and San Beda College-Alabang tied for the early lead with their 2-0. San Beda demolished La Salle College, 59-33, Miriam stamped its class over Angelicum, 63-34, and St. Jude outlasted St. Stephen's High School, 47-41. Comebacking Chiang Kai Shek College debuted with a 64-39 win over St. Scholastica’s while De La Salle Zobel was just relentless and gave PWU a 108-19 beating. – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV
