'Kris has better chances than Noynoy in 2010 polls'

As far as former Senate President Ernesto Maceda is concerned, actress-host Kris Aquino-Yap has better chances of winning the presidency in the 2010 elections than her brother Senator Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III. "He [Noynoy] needs a little more seasoning, sana kung ako ang tatanungin, wag na ngayon, kung si Kris, ibang storya yan (if you ask me, he shouldn’t run now, but if it was Kris, that’s another story), unfortunately she is not yet of age to be president," said Maceda, who is also a member of the United Opposition's executive committee.

Calls for Sen. Aquino to run for president came after Kris said in a Mass during the wake of their mother, former President Corazon Aquino, that she and her only brother would continue what their mother and father, slain Senator Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr., started. Days after Mrs. Aquino’s burial, someone in Mabalacat, Pampanga put up streamers urging Sen. Aquino to run for president. The Heightened Ethics League of the Philippines has since started the “Senator Benigno Aquino III for President Movement" which aims to collect a million signatures in hopes of urging the senator to run in 2010. [See: Noynoy for president movement launched] Sen. Aquino has not made it clear whether or not he would seek a higher post next year – a hesitancy which the movement has attributed to "humility." On the other hand, Liberal Party (LP) stalwart and chairman-emeritus Jovito Salonga has said that it would be "good" for the party if Senator Mar Roxas II will run for president with Noynoy as his vice president in 2010.
