Director General Jesus Verzosa on Thursday ordered the removal of six Navy personnel implicated in the failed July 2003 Oakwood mutiny from the Philippine National Police’s most wanted list.
Ordered stricken out from the list were Cpl. Jerson Alabata, Pfc. Abraham Apostol, Pfc. Jojo Abando, Pfc. Hardy Glaraga, Pfc. Jojit Soriano and SN1 Gerardo Dedicatura.
PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina said the order was in compliance with the recommendation of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), which found out through an investigation that no formal charges have been filed against the six.
"So right now we are in the process of erasing them from the wanted list and recalling the wanted posters, which we earlier released," Espina said.
The posters, which contained the pictures and names of seven Navy personnel including one Pfc. Monchito Lusterio, were released in 2007.
In a statement released Wednesday, CHR noted that the inclusion of the six in the police wanted list was done in the absence of filing of formal charges either in the civilian or military court.
Espina said only Lusterio would remain on their list as he remains at large amid the case filed against him in connection with the Manila Peninsula siege in November 2007.
Under PNP rules, a person who is still at large after being charged or convicted will be included in the wanted list.
The seven were said to be members of the Magdalo group that stormed the Oakwood Premiere Hotel (now Ascott) in Makati City to protest the alleged widespread corruption in the Arroyo government on July 27, 2003. - GMANews.TV
