Noynoy expected to announce presidential bid on Wednesday

Senator Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III is expected to announce his bid for the presidency on Wednesday after Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II gave way to the only son of the late President Corazon Aquino to seek the highest post in the 2010 elections. This was according to Florencio "Butch" Abad, campaign manager and former president of the Liberal Party, who said that Noynoy would be making his "reaction to Roxas' announcement" at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City. As of posting time, Noynoy has not given any public statement on Roxas' decision. He was seen at the Club Filipino when Roxas announced that he was supporting Nonoy's candidacy. Noynoy was seen riding in a car with Roxas after Tuesday night's event. GMANews.TV tried but failed to contact Noynoy through his cellphone. The senator's security escort who only identified himself as "Bong," answered GMANews.TV's call Tuesday night and said that Noynoy was at a residence in Quezon City "having dinner with is family." Bong said Noynoy's sisters, Maria Elena "Ballsy" Aquino-Cruz and Victoria Eliza "Viel" Aquino-Dee, were dining with Noynoy. Calls for Noynoy to seek the presidency has grown stronger after the death of his mother last August 1 and the 26th death anniversary of his father, Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr., on August 21. Noynoy earlier said three factors would influence his decision on running for president: (1) his ability to guarantee that there really will be meaningful changes for society and the country (2) availability of logistics for his electoral campaign and (3) the sentiments of his four sisters on his presidential bid. A signature campaign for Noynoy’s candidacy for president was started in Metro Manila by a group that convinced Mrs. Aquino to run for president in the 1986 snap elections called by then President Ferdinand Marcos. The campaign’s prime mover is Edgardo Roces, son of newspaperman Joaquin “Chino" Roces. - GMANews.TV
