Film critic Alexis Tioseco, girlfriend killed in QC home

Widely respected Filipino-Canadian film critic Alexis Tioseco, 28, and his visiting Slovenian girlfriend were killed by three men who waited for the couple to arrive at their Quezon City home before shooting them both. GMA News reported that Tioseco and partner Nika Bohinc, a Slovenian film journalist, were shot several times by three unidentified men who waited for the couple to arrive at the victim's home on Times St., past 10 p.m. Tuesday. They lived several houses down from the home of prospective presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino. The fact that the killers waited for more than hour for the couple raised suspicions among Tioseco's friends that robbery might not have been the main motive. Tioseco was also involved in running his family's trucking business. The report quoted police investigators as saying that the incident could be an inside job because the couple’s new helper, identified only as Criselda, helped the suspects enter the house. “Pumasok ‘yung tatlo. Binuksan ng katulong (The helper opened the door for the three men to come in)," said police investigator PO2 Loreto Tigno. The robbers then hog-tied another helper, Magdalena Patpat, and shot Tioseco and Bohinc. Using the couple’s Ford Lynx (CPW-329), the suspects fled the scene with Criselda. They also took an undetermined amount of cash, jewelry, and four laptops. Tigno asked the public to report any information that could help them track down the suspects. He said the police could be contacted through tel. no. 9225177.
On Wednesday, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) head Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said they were tracking down Criselda. "Yung katulong ang hinahanap namin. At least meron tayong pagsisimulan kasi may nakita kang anggulo na ang katulong, eh, talagang may kinalaman at may kinumbida roon na tatlong tao. 'Yan ang fina-follow up natin ngayon (We are looking for the helper, who invited the three men into the house. This is the lead we are now following)," San Diego said in an interview on dzBB radio. In his blog, Tioseco described himself as a “film critic, curator, and lecturer." He is also founder and editor-and-chief of Criticine, an online journal of Southeast Asian cinema. He wrote his last entry on August 29, 2009. In July 2008, Tioseco also wrote a letter to Bohinc that was published in Rogue Magazine. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
