The remains of Filipino-Canadian film critic Alex Tioseco and his Slovenian girlfriend, film journalist and programmer, Nika Bohinc were reduced to ashes on Saturday in Quezon City. The cremation took place at St. Peter’s Life Plan Building along Quezon Avenue at 11:30 a.m. after a necrological Mass at the Sanctuario de Antonio in Taguig City where Tioseco’s relatives and friends, including independent film director, Raya Martin, delivered eulogies. Tioseco’s ashes will be interred in Angeles City in Pampanga province beside his father’s remains. Bohinc’s remains, meanwhile, will be flown to her family in Slovenia on Tuesday. Unidentified men shot Tioseco, 28, and Bohinc, 30, on Wednesday at their residence on Times Street in the West Triangle barangay (village) of Quezon City. The fact that the killers waited for more than hour for the couple to arrive raised suspicions among Tioseco's friends that robbery might not have been the primary motive in the killings. Police investigators claimed that the incident could have been an inside job. The couple’s new helper, identified only as Criselda, allegedly helped the men enter the house. The perpetrators hog-tied another helper, Magdalena Patpat, before shooting Tioseco and Bohinc. Using the couple’s Ford Lynx (CPW-329), the suspected killers fled the scene allegedly with Criselda, after taking an undetermined amount of cash, jewelry, and four laptops. - ANDREO C.
