Independent liquefied petroleum gas dealers reassured consumers Monday they would not raise prices of their products, even after Shell raised the prices of its LPG by P1.45/kilo.
LPG Marketers Association president Arnel Ty said the P4/kilo price hike his group implemented last week already covers for the whole of September.
“Sigurado na kami na hindi gagalaw ang presyo namin. Tapos na ang aming ginawang pagtataas at ito hanggang katapusan ng buwan (We will surely not raise prices anymore for this month. The P4/kilo hike we implemented is for the whole of September)," Ty said in an interview on dzXL radio.
Shell, citing higher contract prices, raised prices of its LPG products by P1.45/kilo effective Monday.
But Ty said this was part of the strategy of bigger oil firms to hike prices of fuel products on a staggered basis. Such a tactic smacks of lack of transparency, he said.
Ty said that their group exercise transparency by making price adjustments immediately to reflect contract prices. But, he said, the bigger firms implement price hikes on a staggered basis and confuse consumers.
He noted that while the LPGMA announced a P4/kilo hike, the big oil companies initially announced a P2.25/kilo hike, with Shell announcing only now an additional P1.45/kilo adjustment.
“Yan ang aming inirereklamo at yan ang pampagulo sa consumer. A total of P4/kilo ... kaya kung ito nagkaroon ng another movement next week, overprice na yan (That is what we are complaining about. It will confuse the consumer. And if the big firms impose another price hike next week, that will be overpricing)," he said.
Last week, the LPGMA jacked up LPG prices by up to P44 per 11-kg tank, meaning the suggested retail price of LPG will go up from P480 to P524 per tank.
Also last week, the LPGMA imposed a P1/liter price hike on LPG for automobiles, after an earlier P1.20/liter price hike.
The price hike threatens to have taxi operators push for the restoration of a P10 add-on fare due to high prices of Auto-LPG.- GMANews.TV
