Chavit to skip hearing on ‘wife-beating’ issue

Deputy national security adviser Luis "Chavit" Singson will skip Tuesday’s preliminary hearing into the case filed against him by Rachel “Che" Tiongson, his common-law wife whom he allegedly assaulted last week, a television report said. Instead, the former Ilocos Sur governor said he might reveal more documents to prove his claims about Tiongson’s love affairs that soured his 17-year relationship with her. Singson has five children with Tiongson. "Inumpisahan nila 'yan eh, so tatapusin ko lang. May mga record ako dito na 'yung pera, ginamit niya sa lalaki. Hindi lang isa, marami akong record," Singson told GMA News' Susan Enriquez. (They started it, I'll simply finish it. I have many records, not just one, to show that she used the money for her affairs.)

Tiongson denied this and urged Singson to "be a gentleman" and face her in court. "Humarap na lang sana siya sa korte ng maayos…kesa yung magsalita siya ng kung anu-ano, kasi kahit ano man ang sasabihin niya sa akin ang matatamaan pa rin don yung mga bata," she said. (I hope he appears in court properly instead of saying all kinds of things about me, since whatever he says, it's the children who'll get hurt.) Tuesday’s hearing stemmed from the temporary protection order requested by Tiongson before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to prevent Singson from going near her. Singson had earlier said he assaulted Tiongson after finding her in bed with an alleged lover inside their Quezon City apartment. He backtracked on Monday, however, claiming that he in fact saved Tiongson and her male companion from being killed by the private detectives he had hired to stalk the pair. - GMANews.TV
