After fighting unbeaten WBO lightflyweight titlist Ivan Calderon to a six-round technical draw, Filipino prospect Rodel Mayol vowed to finish off the Puerto Rican champ when they meet again on Saturday in Puerto Rico (Sunday in Manila). “I’m coming to get the title. I already showed I can beat him (the first time we faced off), now I know I will beat him," Mayol, a fighter promoted by pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, said, as quoted by FightFan.com. Last June, the 27-year-old Mayol challenged Calderon in the undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Joshua Clottey showdown in New York. The fight was stopped in the sixth round due to a cut on the champ’s forehead, caused by a constant accidental clash of heads. Two judges were split on Mayol and Calderon while the third called it a draw, allowing the pride of Puerto Rico to retain his crown. The 34-year-old champ (32-0-1, 6 KOs) promised to frustrate Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KOs) for a second time. “I took the rematch because I know I can win. I take nothing away from Mayol but he saw the wrong Calderon. I will show many people that at 34 I’m still hungry for victory," Calderon said. He also guaranteed that the old “Iron Boy" Calderon – elusive and slick – will show up this time instead of the one who fought to impress the crowd in Calderon-Mayol I.

I’m coming to get the title (from Calderon). I already showed I can beat him (the first time we faced off), now I know I will beat him.

“That wasn’t the usual Calderon. This time I will not stand still; I will do my usual fight of hitting without getting hit and if he comes aggressive, I will just play him like I did with (Hugo Fidel) Cazares and (Nelson) Dieppa, " he added, referring to the previous challengers prior to Mayol. “Batang Mandaue" Mayol, though, will be ready for this tactic. “I expect Calderon to run and not engage but I also have prepared to run a marathon if that is what will take for me to win," Mayol told PhilBoxing.com in an earlier interview. This will be the fourth crack at the world title for Mayol, who lost to WBC minimumweight king Eagle Den Junlaphan via decision in 2006 and to IBF light-flyweight holder Ulises Solis via KO in 2007 prior to his technical draw with Calderon. - GMANews.TV
