Bongbong unfazed by Noynoy’s plan to go after Marcos wealth
Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand âBongbong" Marcos Jr. said Friday that he is not worried about Senator Benigno Aquino âNoynoy" Aquino IIIâs plan to recover the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family if elected president. âFurther down the campaign, (Aquino) will have other priorities. Those (the ill-gotten wealth) are not the priorities right now. He has to decide for himself what his priorities are," Marcos said. The Ilocos Norte lawmaker added that he does not know how different Aquinoâs plan will be from the governmentâs efforts these past 23 years to recover the supposed Marcos riches. Asked if his family really has ill-gotten wealth, Marcos replied, âObviously these people think so, but the courts donât seem to agree with them." Aquino said on Wednesday that recovering the Marcos assets will be one of his plans should he become president. The government has been going after these assets since the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos's overthrow in 1986, through the Presidential Commission on Good Governance (PCGG) created during the term of the late President Corazon Aquino, Noynoyâs mother. Asked about his political career, Bongbong explained that he is still "contemplating" about his plan to run for senator in the coming elections. âThe decision will depend on what will happen to the opposition and how they unite. The only way for the opposition to do badly this election is to be disunited," he said. â GMANews.TV
